Uncharted: The director does not close the door to a new episode

Game News

As Sony prepares to supply the PS5 catalog with two remasters of PS4 episodes of Uncharted, the thinking heads of the series are talking aloud about its future.

On the occasion of the release of Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, creative director Shaun Escayg and director Kurt Margenau gave a series of interviews to look back on the eventful adventures of a certain Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazier.

I’m not a thief

The Naughty Dog studio having been particularly busy (and tested) by the development of The Last of Us Part II, and yet, the series could continue, as Escayg told Games Radar:

Uncharted is about hearts, struggles, complex characters and their perseverance, and I think that struggle is in all of us. It’s the “special sauce” of Uncharted, which just makes you want to go back. We appreciate this universe so much.

Looking ahead, I think we can say with certainty that we can never say never. Uncharted is a license that we love – that the studio loves. It’s a world we want to rediscover. That’s what I can say.

This therefore potentially leaves the door open to other adventures, provided the winds are favorable, and the treasure trove not too cryptic.

Let’s remember, while waiting for any more official news, the few new features brought by Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection:

  • A Fidelity mode to play in native 4K at 30 frames per second
  • A performance mode to offer a frame rate of 60 frames per second
  • And finally a new performance+ mode offering a 1080p display at 120 frames per second on compatible screens

Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection will be available on January 28, 2022 on PS5. PC players can already pre-order their version on Steam and the Epic Games Store pending its release, still scheduled for “2022”.
