The mysterious Dune: Spice Wars had so far only had the right to a modest teaser and a few screenshots. This time it’s time for a proper gameplay snippet.
Since the early 90s, the Dune license has made some inroads into video games. And inevitably with Villeneuve’s recent film, the license had a nice new spotlight. Enough to allow the Shiro Games studio to turn it into a 4X type strategy title.
what is dune?
Dune is above all a major work of science fiction by novelist Frank Herbert which traces a distant future in which humanity has colonized space, and where noble houses fight for power. Among the important places is the desert planet Arrakis, known for its enormous wealth of Spice which is necessary for space travel.
A 4X in the spotlight
With such a type of scenario, it’s real godsend to make a video game. Even more if it is a 4X type strategy game (for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate). The most important representative of this type of game is, of course, Civilization.
What we know about the game
The developers have announced that the game will get early access, with no specific release date yet. We know that 4 factions will be available, including House Atreides and House Harkonnen. The player will have to diplomatically, commercially and militarily impose his law on the famous planet Arrakis which is notably visible during a large part of the recent film by Denis Villeneuve.
