Game News

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy showed up at length during a State of Play. The game in the Harry Potter universe now has a release window.

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy didn’t miss the call and put on a show in a State of Play. We had as expected 14 minutes of PlayStation 5 gameplay and a shower of information. Starting with the exit period which will ultimately not be at the start of the school year, but end of 2022 (November December).

back to school

And yes, in Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy, you will certainly play a wizard, but not Mr. Potter. It’s up to you to create your wizard or witch using the character editor. What does not change is that you are a apprentice magician in his fifth year and that you will have to select one of four houses, namely Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin during the Sorting ceremony. In doing so, you will be able to follow the teachings of your teachers, including Professor Fig. Handling spells, making potions, you’ll have to burn.

Since school is also (especially?) an excellent way to meet new people, your classmates can become Companions. The journey you will make together will allow you to learn more about them and to be supported when needed.

As you walk through the corridors, you’ll see familiar places filled with dungeons, secrets, and other puzzles to solve with your magic. In the gameplay video, we see in particular the Room of Requirement. A piece that can be rearranged according to a person’s needs. Typically if you need potions, a cauldron will appear. More surprisingly, your school year will affect outdoor settings with a dynamic climate and season system. In winter, you will not be surprised to see snow falling.

Hogwarts Legacy: the story

In this new game developed by Avalanche Software (Disney Infinity), it will be about ancient magic, goblins and more particularly a rebellion of these little beings, who are helped by a dark mage.

Your ties to ancient magic have put you in the path of a goblin rebellion whose leader, Rannrok, is supported by the dark mage Victor Rookwood. Two individuals who pose a terrible threat to the entire wizarding world. Having glimpsed the extent of a magic kept secret by the wizarding world, even from the eyes of their peers, Rannrok set out in search of this formidable power.

His view of the world is corrupted by his hatred of wizards, which makes his alliance with Victor particularly fragile. Once Rannrok gets his hands on what he desires, nothing and no one can stop him and the wizarding world will be doomed.

To unravel the mysteries surrounding this ancient magic and put an end to Rannrok’s rebellion, you will need a friend and a mentor to guide you. This is where Professor Eleazar Fig comes in, whose keen interest in rumors of a goblin rebellion has earned him the disbelief of the Ministry of Magic.

A world beyond Hogwarts

School is fun, but an open world full of activities awaits you. An open world that will be crossed more quickly on the back of a hippogriff or on your flying broom. Hogwarts Legacy therefore also took care to model, among other things, the village of Hogsmeade and its surrounding countryside. Why go there? To shop Wizard for example. But beware, this extracurricular outing could end badly if you come face to face with experienced wizards. If you cross them, the confrontation will be inevitable, but you can also avoid them so as not to get into a fight.

To triumph over your opponents, you will have a whole bunch of spells that combine with each other.

The many spells at your disposal allow you to approach combat in different ways. Are you the type to heat up your wand and throw an Accio at your opponent to draw them in before finishing them off with Incendio? Or do you rely on a stealthy approach with a Disillusionment spell to discreetly neutralize your enemies with a Petrificus Totalus? You’ll need different techniques to counter your opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, which promises to make every confrontation challenging.

This Harry Potter game without Harry Potter being an action-RPG, you will have more than one opportunity to progress your character. Whether it’s by looting equipment or completing challenges to gain experience to redistribute in your skills.

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC from the end of the year.
