Supermassive Games (Until Dawn) announces their upcoming teen-horror game The Quarry. Published by 2K Games, the title offers a high-flying cast with actors from Scream, Aliens…
Last month’s trademark filing materializes, Supermassive Games and 2K Games have announced The Quarry. A new teen-horror narrative game led by Will Bylesthe director of Until Dawn, which was the studio’s most successful game (by far).
Once, during a summer internship…
We leave the haunted boat or the cursed caves of The Dark Pictures Anthology games for a summer holiday camp with a chalet, lake and shovels of dead. Clearly, from the first seconds, one has the impression of being in front of a Until Dawn 2 which does not say its name. And the synopsis of The Quarry goes in this direction. A bunch of youngsters having fun and who will potentially be chopped into little pieces before sunrise… It’s literally Until Dawn.
As with other Supermassive Games productions, you will embody various characters, here nine monitors.
As the sun sets on the last day of their summer camp, the leaders of Hackett’s Quarry decide to throw a party. No children. No adults. No rules. But things will quickly go wrong.
Stalked by people covered in blood and something even more sinister, the teenagers will live an unexpected nightmare. Jokes and flirtations give way to life and death decisions, bonds will tighten or break under the pressure of unsustainable decisions.
Play as the Nine Monitors in a thrilling cinematic narrative, where every decision made will impact the story through a slew of intertwined possibilities. All these characters can be the heroes of a night or die before the dawn. What meaning will your story take?
The Quarry: actors from Scream, Freddy and Aliens in the cast
Like the studio’s previous games, the cast will be made up of Hollywood actors, including several iconic horror/fantasy movies. See instead
- David Arquette (Dewey in Scream)
- Lance Henriksen (Bishop in Aliens, Terminator…)
- Lin Shaye (Claws of the Night, Insidious…)
- Brenda Song (The Social Network, Dollface)
- Ariel Winter (Modern Family, FF7 Advent Children)
- Justice Smith (Jurassic World, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu)
In The Quarry, it will once again be up to the player to build their story based on the decisions made. Will you be curious enough to go investigate a scream? Are you going to save your skin or that of your friends? Every choice will normally have consequences. We say “normally”, because it is true that The Dark Pictures Anthology titles were less accomplished in this area.
The game can be approached solo or up to 7 online, with difficulty adjustment. According to the press release “all gameplay elements allows players of any skill level to enjoy horror“. For example, if you are afraid of giving in to the pressure of choice, you may be a simple viewer with Cinema mode.
Finally, director Will Byles promises innovation in interactive storytelling:
The Quarry innovates again in interactive storytelling and technology to create a truly visceral teen-horror experience. I can’t wait to see the choices you’ll make, who you’ll save, and who you’re willing to sacrifice!
The Quarry will be available on June 10, 2022 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
